Standard Zero for Fair Trade Artisanal Gold and Associated Silver and Platinum is a set of draft principles and standards produced by a technical committee (enlace al apartado Comité técnico de esta sección) co-ordinated by the Association for Responsible Mining, ARM.
It is based on the Quirama Vision for responsible ASM:
| “ASM is a formalized, organized and profitable activity, that uses efficient technologies and is socially and environmentally responsible; it progressively develops within a framework of good governance, legality, participation and respect for diversity; it increases its contribution to the generation of decent work, local development, poverty reduction and social peace in our nations, stimulated by a growing consumer demand for sustainable minerals and jewellery.” |
The proposed standards are an adaptation of the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation (FLO) standards for small producers to the circumstances of artisanal and small scale community mining.
The 2007 version of Standard Zero incorporates the input received from
different stakeholders during the first phase of public consultation of Standard
Zero, held between August and December 2006.
